In September 2007, I began building my home laboratory. I’ve always been interested in science, had recently graduated, and was feeling the need to study science. While I’m planning on going back to school, my undergraduate was in Music, and in order to study science, I’m going to need to really buff up my scientific knowledge. So I went to the local science store, the H.M.S. Beagle, and bought their top of the line chemistry set. Since then, I’ve spent many hours exploring and having tons of fun with it. I’m amazed about how much I’ve learned and continue to learn.
In December 2007, I purchased a compound microscope and began exploring the micro-world of life in addition to the world of chemistry. While not as explosive as chemistry, biology is not any less exciting. Most of the bio-matter on earth is microbial, and being able to observe this world can be breath-taking.
Here are the specific goals I have for this blog:
- Share my own experiences running my home laboratory.
- Provide details of my own experiments, as well as possibilities for future experimentation.
- Provide resources for the home and amateur scientist, including links to online information as well as offline opportunities.
- Anything else related to home science that I’ve not thought of at this time.
